![]() Program Planning
When planning the formal program element of your event, always keep your purpose in mind. You will want the program to highlight your reasons for holding the event. Don't forget to schedule a technical run-through prior to the event, and always remember to publicly thank anyone who significantly contributed to the event and/or its success. When planning a program, consider:
When an event includes keynote speakers, discuss the program in detail with them to make sure they are comfortable with the plans. Ask the speakers if there is anything they specifically need, such as speaking points, for the event. If you are hiring someone to participate in your event, you will probably be asked to sign a contract. Be sure you understand any and all cancellation or payment policies.
Entertainment can be anything from hiring harpists to the FSU Flying High Circus and can add a nice touch to your event. Just be sure that the entertainment you choose "fits" the mood of the event. To hire a musician, consider contacting the College of Music Publicity Office at 850.644.4774. It is a wonderful way to show off our music faculty and students to the rest of campus and community.
Staging is often necessary to ensure all guests have a good view of the program. A typical stage runs anywhere from 12 inches to 18 inches high, has stairs and railings on one or both sides and has skirting around the bottom. If you require staging for your event, you should contact a local vendor because the University Service Center does not provide this particular service. When displaying flags on stage, they should be above and behind the speaker with the United States flag placed to the right of the speaker when facing the audience. Any other flag displayed, such as the State of Florida flag, should be to the left of the speaker when facing the audience. |
